Below is an example of a formative assessment to ascertain if the students were able to fill in a blank column graph correctly with data given as a class, then they were to use the same information to complete a tally and questions using the terminology required in the NSW Syllabus. I used an assessment template that allowed me to quickly note down what students could or could not do after the lesson had finished, using the work samples.
This information helped to formulate further lessons that placed students into maths groups based on knowledge and understanding of this topic.

Below are examples of a series of maths lesson where the students were exploring halves and quarters. The first picture is a task I had set to cut and sort food items into halves and quarters. The students had to draw first where they were going to cut before they could do so on the real object.
The second picture is another task that students had to draw the line to show half or quarter, cut it accordingly then glue onto the page.
The assessment sheet was used over several lessons with a simple cross or tick utilised to enable the assessment to be quick and precise. This information was used to tailor teaching methods and content selection.
