Standards: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 & 7
This learning experience was a whole school initiative to coincide with the ‘Day for Daniel’ that is now a widespread day that is used to promote keeping kids safe.
I was asked by the classroom teacher to put together this lesson for the 2 classes in Stage 1. I utilised the resources on the website http://www.danielmorcombe.com.au to incorporate age appropriate tasks and terminology into the lesson.
Following the lesson students were able to take home their booklet that was completed, with the names of 5 people who are their safety network to show parents and carers, supporting parent engagement.
I created a window display to also engage parents and careers upon school pickup, most would arrive a few minutes prior to the bell and showed a positive responsive to the display.

I utilised knowledge in my lesson planning from the Cultural Immersion workshop run by CSU.
The topic was Embeding Indigeneous Perspectives in the Curriculum, which gave a good insight into the ‘8 Ways’ website and the ways in which Indigenous peoples learn best.
I endeavoured to incorporate these learning strategies into each lesson and every day to ensure the two Indigenous students and the class as a whole were exposed to this teaching practice.
